Zach Levi has scored in prime-time on NBC’s Chuck as a nerd who becomes a reluctant high tech spy. Now, he’s out-geeking himself on the big screen in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, playing an adult still hooked on video games who gets stuck babysitting the ‘munks.

Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf discovered that Levi doesn’t deny he was once a nerd himself.

Exploring his inner geek.
“I know that kind of awkward guy is in me. That’s what I draw upon for Chuck and that’s what I drew upon for Toby, who is definitely even more of a nerd. I was kind of Toby in junior high school which was a rough patch of life for me. By high school I was okay, even though I had some spotty times. But, it was never as bad for me as it is for Toby in the movie. He’s getting the worst of the worst.”

After two seasons of Chuck, Zachary Levi stars in the film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. He plays Toby Seville, who takes over watching the chipmunks from Dave (Jason Lee) after an Alvin-related injury. Don’t worry, Levi’s not about to start acting like a movie diva and forsake TV.

Zachary Levi Hanging with Chipmunks

“Television is a pretty great job to begin with, and I wouldn’t have anything if it weren’t for the jobs that I’ve had in the past, that have built up to that,” Levi said. “Do I want to do more films? Absolutely! Films tend to have more of a cache. If you’re a respected film actor, there tends to be more of an, ‘Oh, he’s a film actor’ but that’s more of a vestige to the ‘80s, where television wasn’t what it is now. In some ways, it’s so much better now. Because of the special effects and everything that movies have brought forth, television has had to really up its game, like Lost. I could watch Lost forever, and it’s going to be done.”

UPDATE: Alvin has been released in the UK today. You can go and watch it now.

What do you do if all-around prince-among-men Zachary Levi shows up at your office unannounced just to say hello? If you’re me, you slap some powder on his face, throw a camera in front of him, and then grill him for exclusive scoop about Chuck’s third season. And then as a thank you, you hook him and a friend up with house seats to South Pacific and let him have one of your 2009 Smurfs (he picked the cameraman).

What I learned from my “Chuck” trip to WonderCon

Contains a few Spoilers!

From the Preview:

  • Chuck’s dad, played by Scott Bakula, is named Stephen J. Bartowski
  • Big Mike is bangin’ Morgan’s mom.
  • Big Mike is possibly going to upgrade Morgan’s employee status at the Buy More
  • It’s funny to hear Emmitt Milbarge say “Well bring it on bitches!”
  • Awesome has a bachelor party that John Casey actually attends! The strippers are not what they had hoped for so I’m thinking Jeff and Lester had something to do with it?
  • Agent Forrest seduces Captain Awesome and it looks like he enjoyed it.
  • We saw scenes from versus the Beefcake, which airs tonight.
  • While outside of the Ellie and Chuck’s apartment, we see Sarah telling Chuck, “Ellie is watching, we better sell it.” Hmm… rough times for Charah?
  • Charah moment: Chuck to Sarah: “I just want to be able to tell Ellie the truth. About who I am and what I do and how I really feel about you. I can’t believe how much the United States government has hurt the people that I love.”
Sarah: “Well maybe it’s time for the United States government to help you.”
  • Sarah helps Chuck find his dad. Before Chuck’s dad opens the door to his trailer, it looks like Chuck and Sarah were having a little moment.
  • The last time Ellie saw her dad was when he told her he was going to go make some pancakes.
  • Chuck talks to Ellie about forgiving their dad because he’s all they’ve got. What does this mean? No Mama Bartowski? Where are all the moms at?
  • Another Charah moment: Chuck: “I am going to get this thing out of my head, one day I will, and when I do, I will live the life that I want with the girl that I love.” Me?
  • Arnold Vosloo is a bad ass who asks Chuck why he would tell his team not to bring guns on a mission. Chuck answers: Guns make things too easy and I like my spies to be tough. Queue Casey firing his gun at Arnold Vosloo’s character. Chuck to Casey: “You had a gun?” Casey to Chuck: “I always have a gun.”
  • Chuck to possibly go in a bunker? Or does Beckman just want a ‘hang out’ buddy?
  • Ted Roark has a scene where he tells his men to kill the CIA agent (Chuck). Stephen Bartowski replies: he’s my son! To that TR says: “Congratulations! Kill his son.” Read the rest of this entry »
